School Zone Safety
After a long summer break school is back for the year. At FamilyCar.com.au safety in and around cars is of great importance to us. Which is why we thought we’d give you the low down on school zones across Australia, which are now in force.
Did you know that any driving offence committed in a school zone carries harsher penalties than a non school zone?* This is to help protect our children who are far more vulnerable than adults around road traffic.
Getting your kids dropped off and picked up on time is a challenge for many of us. Some days it’s breeze and other days it’s as frantic as an ant’s nest in a 60 second house building challenge.
Following is a list of maneuvers that are commonly performed in schools zones that are illegal* and endanger the lives of our children.
1. Double parking
2. Speeding
3. Passing/overtaking vehicle on a pedestrian crossing
4. Making a U-turn without giving way to a pedestrian or vehicle
5. Driving on a pathway or nature strip
6. Stopping in a bus zone
